63. What HRT Changed About My Midlife Health, Mindset, and Hormones

63. What HRT Changed About My Midlife Health, Mindset, and Hormones

Ever wonder if the way you’re feeling in midlife is just “how it’s supposed to be now”—or if something deeper is going on? In this episode of Mind Your Midlife, I’m sharing my own hormone replacement therapy (HRT) journey and what ultimately led me to say yes to exploring it.

I’ve interviewed experts on menopause and hormones before, but this time, I’m telling my story. From unexpected physical symptoms to mood changes, low energy, and a surprising high cholesterol wake-up call, this episode is about listening to your body, advocating for yourself, and realizing that feeling “not great” doesn’t have to be your new normal.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL DISCOVER:

✔ The menopause and perimenopause symptoms I didn’t realize were hormone-related
 ✔ Why my cholesterol results became a turning point in my decision
 ✔ How estrogen levels can affect far more than hot flashes
 ✔ What actually changed for me after starting HRT
 ✔ Why getting the right medical support in midlife matters so much

🎯 OMG Moment: Just because your symptoms are common doesn’t mean you have to live with them. Feeling “off” is information—and you’re allowed to do something about it.

Take Action

If any part of this episode sounds familiar, start by paying attention. Track your symptoms, notice patterns, and don’t downplay how you’re feeling. Then, talk with a medical professional who is trained in menopause care and willing to listen. You deserve options—and informed ones.

Why This Episode Matters

For women over 40 and 50, midlife health conversations are often minimized or oversimplified. This episode is about reclaiming your voice, understanding the role hormones play in your physical and mental health, and recognizing that self-care in midlife includes advocating for your well-being. You’re not broken—and you’re not alone.

00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:01.439
Are you ready for story time?

00:00:01.439 --> 00:00:07.679
Today I want to share with you my HRT journey so far.

00:00:07.679 --> 00:00:11.599
And you've heard me interview a few different people.

00:00:11.599 --> 00:00:17.839
I'm in fact going to link some episodes in the show notes that you definitely want to listen to if you haven't already.

00:00:17.839 --> 00:00:24.559
You've heard me interview a few different people about hormone replacement therapy, but I haven't told you my story.

00:00:24.559 --> 00:00:27.600
And so let's talk about it.

00:00:27.600 --> 00:00:35.600
Welcome to Mind Your Midlife, your go-to resource for confidence and success, one thought at a time.

00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:48.399
Unlike most advice out there, we believe that simply telling you to believe in yourself or change your habits isn't enough to wake up excited about life or feel truly confident in your body.

00:00:48.399 --> 00:00:57.840
Each week, you'll gain actionable strategies and, oh my goodness, powerful insights to stop feeling stuck and start loving your midlife.

00:00:57.840 --> 00:01:01.119
This is the Mind Your Midlife podcast.

00:01:01.119 --> 00:01:08.799
One thing that I always say is that coaches need coaches.

00:01:08.799 --> 00:01:13.599
Sort of related to that, I used to be a teacher, I still do training.

00:01:13.599 --> 00:01:17.599
Often teachers are not the greatest students.

00:01:17.599 --> 00:01:22.079
Coaches are not the greatest coaches, but we need those teachers.

00:01:22.079 --> 00:01:23.760
We need those coaches.

00:01:23.760 --> 00:01:28.799
We can't always figure out and see things for ourselves.

00:01:28.799 --> 00:01:30.239
We need support.

00:01:30.239 --> 00:01:49.760
And so I want to share with you how HRT has been going for me and how I got to where I am now and what really made not made, but really kind of was the reason I made the decision to try it, because maybe something will resonate with you about your story.

00:01:49.760 --> 00:01:56.000
This is not simply a story about physical symptoms that I was having.

00:01:56.000 --> 00:02:27.120
Now, I do have to say, I am not a therapist, I am not a doctor, I am not a nurse, so this is not meant to be in any way medical advice.

00:02:27.120 --> 00:02:40.080
If you are thinking that something resonates with you, go and see a medical professional and make sure you look for someone who is certified by the menopause society.

00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:43.120
You can go to the menopause society's website.

00:02:43.120 --> 00:02:50.400
If you are in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area, you can go to Vita Women's Health with Adrienne Thompson.

00:02:50.400 --> 00:02:52.159
She meets virtually.

00:02:52.159 --> 00:02:55.680
There are other all over the place.

00:02:55.680 --> 00:02:58.560
It's starting to happen all over the place.

00:02:58.560 --> 00:03:04.080
Doctors and medical professionals who want to help us during this period of time.

00:03:04.080 --> 00:03:18.800
I like her.

00:03:18.800 --> 00:03:33.680
However, about six months ago, when I went for my usual, you know, smear and all the stuff, I said to her, you know, my skin's been really dry, my ears been itching.

00:03:33.680 --> 00:03:36.400
Like I have a few of these, a few hot flashes.

00:03:36.400 --> 00:03:38.879
I wonder if I should do something about it.

00:03:38.879 --> 00:03:51.599
And she, when we had this conversation, it was about 10 minutes after she had almost fallen out of her chair realizing that I wasn't taking any medication.

00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:54.719
I am 54, I'm almost 55.

00:03:54.719 --> 00:03:56.080
It is true.

00:03:56.080 --> 00:04:00.639
I am not taking any medication besides the hormones that I'm now taking.

00:04:00.639 --> 00:04:02.560
But at that time, I was not.

00:04:02.560 --> 00:04:07.439
I'd take certain vitamin supplements and things like that, but I was not taking any prescription medication.

00:04:07.439 --> 00:04:11.120
And she truly was falling out of her chair about it.

00:04:11.120 --> 00:04:24.480
And if you follow me on social media, you might have seen me posting back then in the spring of this year, I think it was, oh my goodness, is it really that unusual to not be taking any prescription medication?

00:04:24.480 --> 00:04:27.680
And I had people commenting to me, yes, it is.

00:04:27.680 --> 00:04:32.240
And there were people who were commenting, that's me too, but I think it is unusual.

00:04:32.240 --> 00:04:34.399
So I'm not saying anything negative.

00:04:34.399 --> 00:04:40.959
If you need to take a prescription because you have a health condition and you need to treat it, then please do.

00:04:40.959 --> 00:04:45.600
I feel very lucky that I did not have to do that.

00:04:45.600 --> 00:04:51.120
And so what she said to me when I asked, you know, is there something I can do for these symptoms?

00:04:51.120 --> 00:04:53.439
She said, Well, are they really impacting you?

00:04:53.439 --> 00:04:58.160
And I was like, ah, you know, a little bit bothersome, but I ideal.

00:04:58.160 --> 00:05:00.240
And she said, Well, you're not taking anything.

00:05:00.240 --> 00:05:01.600
I don't think you want to start.

00:05:01.600 --> 00:05:05.759
She said, if it gets way worse, maybe come back and talk to me again.

00:05:05.759 --> 00:05:08.480
And that's fine.

00:05:08.480 --> 00:05:11.680
And I don't think I begrudge her saying that.

00:05:11.680 --> 00:05:25.839
And so unfortunately, because believe it or not, in one-on-one situations, I do get a little shy sometimes.

00:05:25.839 --> 00:05:33.279
Unfortunately, what I took away from that was that even if I went back, I wasn't sure that I would be able to get any help.

00:05:33.279 --> 00:05:36.639
And so I was kind of just like, I probably won't do it.

00:05:36.639 --> 00:05:38.240
And so I said, you know what?

00:05:38.240 --> 00:05:41.680
I'll go forward on my own and I'll figure it out.

00:05:41.680 --> 00:05:45.360
And my symptoms kept happening.

00:05:45.360 --> 00:05:49.839
And my physical symptoms weren't, they weren't super awful.

00:05:49.839 --> 00:06:02.560
I have heard friends tell me about hot flashes that just resulted in sweat pouring down their head, down their body, you know, whatever, wet pajamas at night, all of that.

00:06:02.560 --> 00:06:03.680
Mine weren't that bad.

00:06:03.680 --> 00:06:09.519
It just sort of felt like I was like a cartoon character that just burst into flame occasionally.

00:06:09.519 --> 00:06:11.600
And then it would, and then it would stop.

00:06:11.600 --> 00:06:18.639
I was a little annoyed at always being like the tiniest bit sweaty, almost like glistening, if you've heard a woman say that before.

00:06:18.639 --> 00:06:22.160
I was a little annoyed about that, but it wasn't that bad.

00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:27.360
I think possibly one of the most annoying physical symptoms I had was my ears itching.

00:06:27.360 --> 00:06:30.079
What in the world?

00:06:30.079 --> 00:06:34.639
That actually is a perimenopause-menopause symptom.

00:06:34.639 --> 00:06:41.199
My ears were itching all the time, and I didn't think I should be walking around like always with my finger in my ear, itching it.

00:06:41.199 --> 00:06:45.600
But truly, it was really bothering me, and it is a real symptom.

00:06:45.600 --> 00:06:48.879
So if that's you, I understand.

00:06:48.879 --> 00:06:54.800
My skin, I felt like my cheeks were starting to sag a little bit.

00:06:54.800 --> 00:06:55.680
You know what I mean?

00:06:55.680 --> 00:07:09.439
My skin was getting dry, and I already have eczema issues, and I already have very, very dry skin, and I'm very careful about what I use on my skin because I'm allergic to half the world of skin care, basically.

00:07:09.439 --> 00:07:10.959
Well, maybe more than half.

00:07:10.959 --> 00:07:13.279
So I was a little annoyed about that too.

00:07:13.279 --> 00:07:17.360
I'm just getting drier and drier and drier, drier everywhere.

00:07:17.360 --> 00:07:19.120
But I was living with it.

00:07:19.120 --> 00:07:26.560
And what happened then was that this summer, maybe like early fall, I went for my physical.

00:07:26.560 --> 00:07:30.720
And you know, I went to my family doctor and everything was fine.

00:07:30.720 --> 00:07:33.279
And she said, let's do the blood test.

00:07:33.279 --> 00:07:34.879
Okay, great.

00:07:34.879 --> 00:07:40.160
So my blood test results came back, and my vitamin D was low.

00:07:40.160 --> 00:07:43.120
And I'm just gonna go on a little tangent about vitamin D.

00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:47.519
And again, remember, this is not medical advice, I'm just sharing with you.

00:07:47.519 --> 00:08:00.079
But years ago, a different primary care doctor, a woman, had said to me, if you do nothing else for your health, please take vitamin D.

00:08:00.079 --> 00:08:02.079
And I said, Well, don't you get it from the sun?

00:08:02.079 --> 00:08:03.839
And mine isn't like super low.

00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:09.279
And she said, vitamin D makes a difference in basically everything.

00:08:09.279 --> 00:08:13.279
And she said, and you can fact check me, I never really looked this up.

00:08:13.279 --> 00:08:22.000
This was my doctor telling me, she said, vitamin D isn't even really a vitamin, it's a hormone, and it affects so many processes in your body, you would be shocked.

00:08:22.000 --> 00:08:24.639
Vitamin D, vitamin D, vitamin D, vitamin D.

00:08:24.639 --> 00:08:26.959
If you took one thing, vitamin D.

00:08:26.959 --> 00:08:30.000
So there you go, message from my doctor of the past.

00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:40.080
So I was actually taking a vitamin D supplement, and still, when my blood test results came back in let's say September, somewhere around there, it was a little bit low.

00:08:40.080 --> 00:08:43.120
And I was like, ugh, okay, well, I guess I should be taking more.

00:08:43.120 --> 00:08:45.600
And to be honest, I'm not I wasn't perfect about it.

00:08:45.600 --> 00:08:48.320
I didn't always remember, but I did okay.

00:08:48.320 --> 00:08:54.000
But the thing that really hit was my cholesterol.

00:08:54.000 --> 00:09:03.440
So my LDL cholesterol, I don't remember the number, and the number doesn't matter, it was above the healthy range.

00:09:03.440 --> 00:09:05.440
All the other measures were okay.

00:09:05.440 --> 00:09:07.759
LDL much higher.

00:09:07.759 --> 00:09:12.480
And it had been gradually getting higher over the past few years.

00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:31.200
And so my doctor's advice in the little message that you get in the system was to stop eating red meat or at least minimize it, to eat more fiber, to eat more fruits and vegetables, to try to eat healthy in general, to minimize the alcohol.

00:09:31.200 --> 00:09:40.240
Okay, I'll grant you minimizing the alcohol maybe is something I need to be cognizant of, but I already don't eat red meat all that much.

00:09:40.240 --> 00:09:54.320
I in fact watched on Netflix, I don't remember what it was called, a twin study that they did where they had one identical twin on a vegan diet and one identical twin, the other one on a carnivore diet.

00:09:54.320 --> 00:09:58.399
And the benefits coming from the vegan diet were crazy good.

00:09:58.399 --> 00:10:03.600
So I had really started limiting all meat.

00:10:03.600 --> 00:10:05.200
I'm still gonna eat eggs.

00:10:05.200 --> 00:10:11.039
I'm not focused enough on getting my protein totally in a vegan way, but I had really minimized it.

00:10:11.039 --> 00:10:14.399
So it's not the red meat, I can tell you for sure.

00:10:14.399 --> 00:10:17.039
And I already eat really healthy.

00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:18.960
That has been my thing for a long time.

00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:24.559
I used to have a health and wellness business, and I still do have clients in that business.

00:10:24.559 --> 00:10:28.000
And I go to barre typically twice a week.

00:10:28.000 --> 00:10:34.879
Now, at the time of recording this, I haven't been in two and a half weeks, so there's a holiday season, right?

00:10:34.879 --> 00:10:36.480
But I'll do it, I'll get back.

00:10:36.480 --> 00:10:40.879
So I move, I exercise, I eat pretty healthy.

00:10:40.879 --> 00:10:47.120
I haven't I haven't changed my clothing size in a long, long, long time.

00:10:47.120 --> 00:10:56.559
And in fact, I'm either e I think I'm only like half a size in clothing bigger than when I got married 28 years ago.

00:10:56.559 --> 00:11:00.159
So I'm doing okay, in my opinion.

00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:02.639
And I got a little annoyed, and I said, you know what?

00:11:02.639 --> 00:11:04.960
Okay, I can increase my fiber.

00:11:04.960 --> 00:11:06.320
That's a good idea.

00:11:06.320 --> 00:11:07.919
I will do that.

00:11:07.919 --> 00:11:14.799
But is that gonna be the solution for this LDL cholesterol going higher and higher and higher and higher?

00:11:14.799 --> 00:11:23.360
I started looking into it because that was all the doctor said to me, and she said, you know what, it's not ridiculous.

00:11:23.360 --> 00:11:25.600
Let's check it again in a few months.

00:11:25.600 --> 00:11:27.600
Let's see how it is in a few months.

00:11:27.600 --> 00:11:28.480
That's fine.

00:11:28.480 --> 00:11:31.360
And I haven't gone back and rechecked it, so we'll see.

00:11:31.360 --> 00:11:34.879
Because things started to happen, choices started to be made.

00:11:34.879 --> 00:11:50.720
And so I was Googling around, and goodness we know we have to be careful when we Google about health things, wondering what is going on with my LDL cholesterol going high in my mid-50s.

00:11:50.720 --> 00:11:52.559
You want to know what I found?

00:11:52.559 --> 00:12:00.320
It can be something that happens in your body when your estrogen drops.

00:12:00.320 --> 00:12:02.960
What?

00:12:02.960 --> 00:12:08.320
I really did not want to go on statins for cholesterol.

00:12:08.320 --> 00:12:10.559
I really did not want to do that.

00:12:10.559 --> 00:12:15.759
I do not think that I need to do that, and I want to actively avoid it.

00:12:15.759 --> 00:12:19.919
Now, if you're taking them and you need them, please, I'm so happy they exist, right?

00:12:19.919 --> 00:12:21.440
I'm so happy they're helping you.

00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:23.039
But I did not want to do that.

00:12:23.039 --> 00:12:30.480
So I need to figure out something, but I did not know that there was potentially a link with estrogen levels.

00:12:30.480 --> 00:12:32.559
No one said that.

00:12:32.559 --> 00:12:34.879
No one said that.

00:12:34.879 --> 00:12:41.120
And to this day, no one has said that except the internet.

00:12:41.120 --> 00:12:46.960
But I found it quite a bit on the internet, so that started to make me think.

00:12:46.960 --> 00:13:08.240
And around the same time that all this was happening, so late summer, early fall, I also started looking for a therapist because I don't talk about it on the podcast, and I am unlikely to, but I have been going through a few things in my life that are really hard.

00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:11.360
And I was feeling really down.

00:13:11.360 --> 00:13:21.360
And I have known multiple people who have had depression in a way that they needed medication, they needed treatment.

00:13:21.360 --> 00:13:24.639
I've seen it, I've seen what it can look like.

00:13:24.639 --> 00:13:27.600
I've not seen every possible way it might look.

00:13:27.600 --> 00:13:35.600
And I knew I didn't have clinical depression, but I knew I didn't feel right.

00:13:35.600 --> 00:13:43.440
I was letting these things that are legitimately sad and difficult things really bring me down.

00:13:43.440 --> 00:13:47.519
I really didn't feel like going out and doing things as much.

00:13:47.519 --> 00:13:49.759
And this was very gradual.

00:13:49.759 --> 00:14:01.679
And I I wanted to come on and share this because if this resonates with you, or if you catch this, then maybe, maybe my experience will help you as well.

00:14:01.679 --> 00:14:02.960
It was gradual.

00:14:02.960 --> 00:14:13.200
I just I'm a knitter, so sitting and knitting and listening to an audiobook or sort of half-watching a show on TV is something I love to do anyway.

00:14:13.200 --> 00:14:14.480
I'm also a reader.

00:14:14.480 --> 00:14:21.759
So I always joke with my husband that he has all these active hobbies that he likes to do, and I have the ones that require me to sit on my butt.

00:14:21.759 --> 00:14:24.320
I knit, I read, I podcast.

00:14:24.320 --> 00:14:25.759
It's all sitting on my butt.

00:14:25.759 --> 00:14:27.519
But anyway, just joking.

00:14:27.519 --> 00:14:30.480
I noticed though that I didn't want to do anything else.

00:14:30.480 --> 00:14:34.720
I just wanted to sit, I was kind of cocooning a lot.

00:14:34.720 --> 00:15:53.000
And there's nothing wrong with that until it becomes, until it becomes almost like a coping mechanism.

00:15:53.000 --> 00:16:05.879
And so I recognized that in myself, and I went out and I looked for a therapist, and I have been on kind of a gradual basis seeing her and talking things through, and that has been a good thing.

00:16:05.879 --> 00:16:08.839
I don't think it's ever not a good thing, quite frankly.

00:16:08.839 --> 00:16:15.480
But then I kept doing my research about this LDL cholesterol, and you know what else I found?

00:16:15.480 --> 00:16:29.799
I found that it is possible that anxiety, tiredness, lack of interest in doing things might also be symptoms of hormone levels changing.

00:16:29.799 --> 00:16:33.799
And I think it was estrogen again, could have been progesterone.

00:16:33.799 --> 00:16:35.480
I think it was estrogen again.

00:16:35.480 --> 00:16:36.759
What?

00:16:36.759 --> 00:16:44.759
So I went ahead with the start of therapy because again, can't hurt, don't think it could hurt anyone ever.

00:16:44.759 --> 00:16:54.360
But I realized maybe it wasn't that that was making me just feel so low and low energy, and just I don't want to do anything.

00:16:54.360 --> 00:16:57.000
Maybe again it was the hormones.

00:16:57.000 --> 00:17:06.920
So I didn't have night sweats that were just ridiculously awful, and I didn't have hot flashes that were what I've heard described as awful.

00:17:06.920 --> 00:17:09.400
I had them, but they weren't that bad.

00:17:09.400 --> 00:17:16.279
But I had so many other things starting to add up.

00:17:16.279 --> 00:17:32.120
Low energy, uh, like feeling a little like I was a little bit depressed or or low mood, itchy ears, dryness everywhere, high LDL cholesterol, I'm trying to think, I mean, I can't even remember what else.

00:17:32.120 --> 00:17:38.840
All of this stuff was happening, and it all was potentially related to hormones.

00:17:38.840 --> 00:17:40.200
What?

00:17:40.200 --> 00:17:57.160
So instead of just being annoyed at the doctor, adding some fiber to my diet, and just hoping for the best, that is when I went and saw, and she was on this podcast, Adrienne Thompson.

00:17:57.160 --> 00:18:03.960
Now, as I said, there's many medical practitioners out there that that really focus on HRT and menopause.

00:18:03.960 --> 00:18:06.279
She was my choice, she's in my area.

00:18:06.279 --> 00:18:08.840
She's a virtual practice, but she's in my area.

00:18:08.840 --> 00:18:12.519
So we talked this through and she did more blood tests.

00:18:12.519 --> 00:18:21.320
And in those blood tests, she was checking hormone levels and checking in detail some more things than what your average kind of physical would check.

00:18:21.320 --> 00:18:24.920
And my estrogen was in the toilet.

00:18:24.920 --> 00:18:32.120
I mean, it was like one of those things where it says less than a number because they're not even going to measure after that.

00:18:32.120 --> 00:18:37.560
And I've been in menopause for uh, you know, the official year, a little bit more than that.

00:18:37.560 --> 00:18:39.240
So I wasn't that surprised.

00:18:39.240 --> 00:18:50.920
And as I looked at the symptoms, and she had me fill in the intake forms and we talked through my symptoms, they really were very much focused on estrogen levels, not so much progesterone.

00:18:50.920 --> 00:18:56.120
I believe progesterone can be calming, can help with sleep issues, and of course, other things.

00:18:56.120 --> 00:18:57.880
That wasn't really my issue.

00:18:57.880 --> 00:19:01.640
It was related to low estrogen, all these different symptoms.

00:19:01.640 --> 00:19:12.279
So I wasn't, as someone who never had to take medicine all the time, I wasn't thrilled about having to do something every day for ever.

00:19:12.279 --> 00:19:17.320
But we really talked through is this safe?

00:19:17.320 --> 00:19:19.800
What are the health implications?

00:19:19.800 --> 00:19:27.720
And we talked about the fact that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women.

00:19:27.720 --> 00:19:31.400
Well, what affects cardiovascular disease?

00:19:31.400 --> 00:19:35.320
Uh, cholesterol is a big one, for sure.

00:19:35.320 --> 00:19:50.840
Now, what she told me, and what I need to responsibly tell you, is that it's not recognized, I'm gonna say, yet medically, that taking hormone supplements is a treatment for high LDL cholesterol.

00:19:50.840 --> 00:19:53.480
So I can't tell you that that is a fix.

00:19:53.480 --> 00:20:07.160
But if having very low estrogen can potentially affect my cholesterol, then I am willing to try taking the hormones to see if the cholesterol comes down.

00:20:07.160 --> 00:20:10.440
You'll have to stay tuned, it hasn't been long enough to tell you that.

00:20:10.440 --> 00:20:12.519
But it has been two months.

00:20:12.519 --> 00:20:22.440
So I started on progesterone because if you have a uterus, which I do, you need to take progesterone alongside estrogen.

00:20:22.440 --> 00:20:29.480
If you hear differently than that, look into it further because that is the safe way to do it.

00:20:29.480 --> 00:20:34.840
Make sure that these are bioidentical and you can get them as generics.

00:20:34.840 --> 00:20:38.040
It doesn't have to be from a fancy compounding pharmacy.

00:20:38.040 --> 00:20:43.720
It's not the weird synthetic stuff that was being used back when our moms might have been going through this.

00:20:43.720 --> 00:20:50.759
So I started taking progesterone, that's one little tiny pill at night, and it's so tiny, it's so easy to swallow.

00:20:50.759 --> 00:20:52.840
I was happy about that because I don't love the big ones.

00:20:52.840 --> 00:20:58.519
And then an estrogen patch, and I change it twice a week, and it's really tiny, super easy.

00:20:58.519 --> 00:21:03.000
And so, what she told me was you need to give it some time.

00:21:03.000 --> 00:21:08.920
We're going to start out, and at first, the progesterone, she said, might help me sleep even.

00:21:08.920 --> 00:21:11.880
More soundly because it might make me sleepy at first.

00:21:11.880 --> 00:21:13.000
That's why I take it at night.

00:21:13.000 --> 00:21:15.160
And the first few nights, I zonked.

00:21:15.160 --> 00:21:16.759
It really did make me sleepy.

00:21:16.759 --> 00:21:18.360
The body adjusts to that, though.

00:21:18.360 --> 00:21:20.840
It doesn't have that effect on me as much anymore.

00:21:20.840 --> 00:21:26.519
Although, if you have symptoms from progesterone being low, then it probably could still help you.

00:21:26.519 --> 00:21:31.000
Then she said, just let's give it some time.

00:21:31.000 --> 00:21:36.600
In my head, I'm thinking a couple months with the estrogen as well, and let's see what's going on.

00:21:36.600 --> 00:21:40.840
And eventually we'll do a blood test, we'll check, I'll have all these results for you.

00:21:40.840 --> 00:21:43.160
But here's what has happened so far.

00:21:43.160 --> 00:21:48.279
My flipping ears do not itch anymore.

00:21:48.279 --> 00:21:54.600
And truly, truly, it was driving me bananas.

00:21:54.600 --> 00:21:56.200
It bananas.

00:21:56.200 --> 00:21:59.400
I could not stop scratching like inside my ear.

00:21:59.400 --> 00:22:00.519
Ridiculous.

00:22:00.519 --> 00:22:02.519
And it looks weird too, right?

00:22:02.519 --> 00:22:04.279
It doesn't they don't itch anymore.

00:22:04.279 --> 00:22:05.240
They just don't.

00:22:05.240 --> 00:22:06.759
It's incredible.

00:22:06.759 --> 00:22:09.240
I don't have hot flashes anymore.

00:22:09.240 --> 00:22:13.720
At first I had, you know, a little bit, a little bit, nope, gone.

00:22:13.720 --> 00:22:17.960
My skin is starting to get a little bit better.

00:22:17.960 --> 00:22:22.360
Don't have quite so much dryness all over the place if you get my drift.

00:22:22.360 --> 00:22:27.320
And I'm thrilled.

00:22:27.320 --> 00:22:34.440
And then I've been sitting here trying to evaluate, okay, how about my how about my mental state?

00:22:34.440 --> 00:22:38.279
Do I have more energy than I had back in like August, September?

00:22:38.279 --> 00:22:39.880
Do I feel like doing more things?

00:22:39.880 --> 00:22:41.160
And you know what?

00:22:41.160 --> 00:22:42.360
I do.

00:22:42.360 --> 00:22:50.040
The issues that I was dealing with at that time are still issues that I'm dealing with at this time.

00:22:50.040 --> 00:22:52.759
And they're super sad and they're super difficult.

00:22:52.759 --> 00:23:04.600
And yet I find myself wanting to get off the couch and wanting to do things and feeling a little bit happier about it.

00:23:04.600 --> 00:23:10.360
That just malaise might be the best word for it, is lifting.

00:23:10.360 --> 00:23:19.640
And I can't believe that maybe I would have gone through that and had no idea that there was something that would help.

00:23:19.640 --> 00:23:20.680
It's incredible.

00:23:20.680 --> 00:23:32.600
I even said to my therapist uh maybe a session or two ago, you know, I started this because this was really, really bringing me down and I was worried, but I also think that might have been hormones.

00:23:32.600 --> 00:23:35.320
And she said, absolutely could have been.

00:23:35.320 --> 00:23:37.880
Absolutely could have been.

00:23:37.880 --> 00:23:40.279
Incredible.

00:23:40.279 --> 00:23:47.000
So I can tell already in two months' time that this is making a difference.

00:23:47.000 --> 00:24:03.400
And if you saw my social media the other day, I was mentioning that someone that I know uh that I saw in person recently came up to me and said how impactful that episode with Adrian about how to talk to your doctor about things like this was for her.

00:24:03.400 --> 00:24:12.440
And she went to a practice who actually listened to her and took blood tests, and she's going to be starting on HRT as well.

00:24:12.440 --> 00:24:13.880
Incredible.

00:24:13.880 --> 00:24:15.960
Incredible.

00:24:15.960 --> 00:24:22.360
And the research is there to show that for most of us, this is safe.

00:24:22.360 --> 00:24:28.680
Now, you might be in the group where hormone replacement therapy is not as safe for you.

00:24:28.680 --> 00:24:31.160
And so there are other things.

00:24:31.160 --> 00:24:38.680
And doctors, again, who are certified by the menopause society, have been taught those other things.

00:24:38.680 --> 00:24:47.800
There's been this kind of 20-year gap where doctors just weren't educated about what we were starting to find out was actually healthy and okay.

00:24:47.800 --> 00:24:51.640
And that's what the menopause society is trying to change.

00:24:51.640 --> 00:24:55.720
Hypnosis, believe it or not, is a good option.

00:24:55.720 --> 00:25:02.759
There are non-hormone-based medication options that may be good for you.

00:25:02.759 --> 00:25:10.120
There is topical estrogen that may be safe for you, even if you can't do more than that.

00:25:10.120 --> 00:25:12.040
It could make a big difference.

00:25:12.040 --> 00:25:15.320
So there are so many options.

00:25:15.320 --> 00:25:46.360
And I am telling you that sitting here now, realizing that all those symptoms were starting to go away and feeling so hopeful about whenever I go and get my blood test and I look at that LDL number, that it is going to come down, feeling so hopeful that I'm actually doing something that will make a difference in my overall health, because then we have bone health that is going to be better, most likely, because of appropriate hormone levels.

00:25:46.360 --> 00:25:51.160
And we have, of course, the cholesterol, the cardiovascular, I mean, just so many things.

00:25:51.160 --> 00:26:02.120
I'm feeling so optimistic about that and so happy that I stood up for myself and I said, maybe these aren't horrible, awful things, but they aren't great either.

00:26:02.120 --> 00:26:04.200
And I want to do something about it.

00:26:04.200 --> 00:26:06.200
And so that's my story so far.

00:26:06.200 --> 00:26:11.480
I would love to hear from you if you have a similar story or if this helped you at all.

00:26:11.480 --> 00:26:12.759
Find me on social.

00:26:12.759 --> 00:26:13.880
I'm at Cheryl P.

00:26:13.880 --> 00:26:15.400
Fisher all over the place.

00:26:15.400 --> 00:26:18.519
Remember, Fisher is spelled F-I-S-C-H-E-R.

00:26:18.519 --> 00:26:21.080
Tell me what your experience was.

00:26:21.080 --> 00:26:23.160
It will not be a bot answering you.

00:26:23.160 --> 00:26:25.640
I answer DMs.

00:26:25.640 --> 00:26:29.880
Now we are smack into the holiday season right now.

00:26:29.880 --> 00:26:34.519
I hope you have time with family and friends, and I hope you are enjoying it.

00:26:34.519 --> 00:26:36.120
I know there can be strife.

00:26:36.120 --> 00:26:37.720
I know it can be up and down.

00:26:37.720 --> 00:26:39.960
That is the case for me for sure.

00:26:39.960 --> 00:26:43.080
So I wish you happy holidays.

00:26:43.080 --> 00:26:45.080
We'll be back next Friday.

00:26:45.080 --> 00:26:53.160
So make sure you hit the follow button because I have a guest on next Friday, and we are gonna talk about vibrant aging.

00:26:53.160 --> 00:26:56.120
And you're gonna like this discussion.

00:26:56.120 --> 00:27:09.000
And in the meantime, keep remembering that now is your time to take just a little bit better care of yourself on the inside and on the outside.

00:27:09.000 --> 00:27:14.279
Your mind, your mental state, your mindset, and your physical health.

00:27:14.279 --> 00:27:18.120
Just a little bit better care makes a huge difference.
